Simon Monks is managing partner of Caldwell in New Zealand. With over 30 years of experience in both local and international executive search and leadership advisory organisations, he has consulted on a wide variety of commercial enterprises at the senior executive level in New Zealand, Australasia and internationally. As a senior member of the global Board & CEO Practice, he has oversight of the Consumer, Retail & eCommerce, Industrial, Financial Services, and Private Equity practices in New Zealand. His functional expertise in addition to CEO/Board includes CFO, CMO, CSO, CCO and CHRO.
Simon’s international executive search experience includes holding senior leadership positions in both local and international firms across New Zealand and Australia. These organisations include Amrop International New Zealand, subsequently acquired by TMP Worldwide Executive Search (Highland Partners) where Simon held the role of managing partner based in Sydney. On his return to New Zealand in 2003, he co-founded his own leadership advisory firm, RENTONJAMES, which was acquired by Heidrick & Struggles International in 2007.
Simon was the regional sector leader of the Gaming & Hospitality Practice in Asia Pacific for Heidrick & Struggles and led the establishment of the Asia Pacific Gaming Practice. In this role, he leveraged his extensive international experience and networks in the gaming sector developed since 1995, coordinating senior-level, cross-border gaming searches, working in conjunction with his partners in the United States and Europe. Following a transitional period, Simon and the New Zealand team entered an agreement to represent Caldwell in Asia Pacific to assist in developing their targeted growth strategy for the region.
Simon holds both an LLB and MBA from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
